The Roman military belt was needed to help hold the weight of a soldier’s armour, particularly the chainmail Lorica Hamata. This belt would keep some of the weight off his shoulders during a long march. It also was used to suspend his Pugio dagger sidearm. This Roman belt is made of thick leather and is adorned with riveted brass plates. A brass buckle is used to adjust its length.
